Convicted murderer granted new trial
August 31, 2011
Wyoming: On Tuesday, August 16, Judge Timothy C. Day of the state Ninth District Court ordered that Troy Dean Willoughby, a man convicted of a murder on June 21, 1984, be granted a new trial. Judge Day granted the trial after being show proof that the prosecution suppressed evidence positive for the defendant by failing to disclose a Sublette County Sheriff’s Office report during pre-trial discovery. The disclosure failure came to light after a tape of recorded conversations between law enforcement and state prosecutors showed that they intentionally withheld the report saying "we will just keep our mouths shut and maybe they won’t even find it."[1]
