Campaign themes

2017

Cole-McFadden's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Durham Youth
Proposed draconian budget cuts from Washington put the people of Ward 1, Durham’s most vulnerable, at risk. I will work to help secure my people, my families... the ones who stand to lose the most.

Education
My zest and zeal for our Durham youth is something that is dear to my heart. My advocacy, voice, and life, all attest to my commitment to embracing and educating youth as my pledge to give back to our community.

Employment
While on City Council, I led a business-focused program for women and minorities to help families bridge the financial gap.

Affordable Housing
By creating housing opportunities, we help build stronger communities, providing opportunities for people to raise families and to have economic success.

Public Safety
Our police officers provide our residents with safety and security. After forming an employee-based Affirmative Action committee, focusing on female and minority recruitment , we worked to ready and improved outcomes for qualified officers resulting in a more diverse police department.[4]
