Campaign themes

2016

Campbell's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Education

  • District 196 is one of the most well run districts in all of Minnesota leading in innovation and sound fiscal management. We have excellent teachers and need to give them the authority to give our students the opportunity to succeed. I fully support policies that recruit and retain the best teachers possible. I believe that parents should have the opportunity to choose which schools are best for their own families. I believe in fully funding special ducation programs, so that all students have the option of receiving a great education.

Transportation

  • Minnesota families rely on our road and bridge infrastructure to get their kids to school and themselves to work. We need to refocus transportation dollars on roads and bridges and deliver a real, long-term solution without increasing taxes. We need to use transportation taxes which Minnesotans already pay (license tab fees, rental car taxes and a sales tax on auto parts) and apply those fees to roads and bridges not the general fund.

The Economy

  • Government does not create jobs, it is government’s responsibility to create an environment which entices businesses to grow and expand by reducing taxes and regulations which can be harmful and expensive to administer. We need to streamline the permit process which often takes years to get processed. We need tax reform that allows more businesses and families to keep more of their hard earned money in order to keep Minnesota competitive.

The Budget

  • Minnesota currently has a projected surplus of approximately 900 million dollars. I support every department and program starting at zero every budget biennium instead of a simple % increase of previous budgets. We need to make government more efficient and effective to provide better services for a lower cost. A budget surplus means we taxed to high and the surplus needs to be returned to the taxpayers. I support repeal of business to business, farm equipment, and warehouse taxes which were passed by DFL controlled legislature in 2013.

Health Care

  • As the home of the Mayo Clinic, Minnesota has always been recognized as a leader in quality health care. The Affordable Care Act made hundreds of thousands of people lose their coverage. They had to change doctors and it is putting undue regulations on Doctors and hospitals. Because of these issues I support the full repeal of the Affordable Care Act and MNSURE replacing it with market based reforms, like free market competition, allowing for profit health carriers, vouchers and health savings accounts. I support more openness on prices for various medical procedures so consumers can more openly compare where and how they receive their health care. We also need to maintain a public safety net for our most vulnerable citizens but programs need to be monitored so the government’s generosity is not abused.[1]
