2016

Maloy's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[7]

Roads and transportation

  • Excerpt: "Cory encourages cost-effective, well-managed improvements to the roadways and highways throughout Utah. He supports mass transit options but is against frivolous tax-and-spend initiatives such as the recent Proposition 1 and BRT tax proposals, which would have placed an unfair burden on many citizens with little benefit."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Cory believes strongly that the federal government does not belong in Utah's school programs. Learning belongs in the hands of parents, teachers and local schools. Funding for education, which is half of Utah's annual budget, needs to focus on supporting parents with the choices they want in educating their children."

Federal lands

  • Excerpt: "Cory supports federal lands returning to Utah ownership combined with responsible stewardship over those lands. Acquisition of the public lands will have great and positive impact on our State and for its citizens. The public lands rightly belong to the state."

No taxation

  • Excerpt: "Cory agrees with the GOP platform that states, "taxation should be as equitable, simple and minimal as possible." Cory supports better utilization of all collected tax funds and searching for ways to efficiently utilize current revenue. He will be very hard pressed to support any form of increased taxation. He opposed last year's Proposition 1 and other attempts to raise taxes."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Utah

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Utah scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
