Four seats on the Council Rock School Board were up for election on November 5, 2013. The candidate field was narrowed in a primary election held on May 21, 2013.
Denise Brooks, Andy Block and Kyle Mckessy ran unopposed and won in Region 3, Region 8 and Region 9, while Mark Byelich defeated Edward Mayer in Region 6.
About the district
Council Rock School District is located in lower Bucks County, which is in southeastern Pennsylvania. The county is home to 627,053 residents.[1]
Demographics
The county outperformed the state in median household income, poverty rate, and higher education. According to the 2010 Census, the median household income in Bucks County was $76,019 compared to Pennsylvania's statewide median of $51,651. The rate of residents below the poverty level in Bucks County was 5.2% while the state rate is 12.6. The percentage of residents over 25 with a bachelor's degree or higher in Bucks County was 34.7% compared to the state overall 26.7%.[1]

Method of board member selection
The Council Rock School Board consists of nine members elected to four-year terms. The members of the board are elected by voters in nine district regions. The primary election for the Council Rock School Board was held on May 21, 2013 and the general election was held on November 5, 2013. Four seats were up for election on November 5, 2013 and the remaining five seats were up for election on November 3, 2015.

Four seats were at stake in the upcoming school board election. Kyle Mckessy was the only incumbent running for re-election.

Additional elections on the ballot
In addition to the school board race, residents of Bucks County had statewide, countywide, and citywide items on the ballot. They voted on a Judge of the Superior Court in a statewide race. They also voted for attorney general, sheriff, prothonotary, recorder of deeds, controller, and four district judges in a countywide race. There were also mayoral, council, auditor, judge of election, and inspector of election races in various townships and boroughs.[5]
