Courtney Banks-McLaughlin is a 3rd term incumbent, serving the residents of District 8 on the Fayetteville City Council. Banks-McLaughlin hails from Detroit, Michigan.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Arkansas Baptist College. She advanced her education, receiving a Master of Arts in Human Resource Management from Webster University in 2008.


Councilwoman Banks-McLaughlin has demonstrated her zeal and commitment to our community as a small business owner, community leader, and advocate for veterans and their families. Additionally, she dedicated herself to community service involving the homeless, elderly, and youth.

Banks-McLaughlin was a leading element in the contingent infrastructure for Fayetteville's Emergency Day Resource Center and spearheaded the conversation of the repurposing of the Market House, which led the City of Fayetteville to receive the prestigious All-American City Award in 2023. In 2023, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper appointed Banks-McLaughlin as an Advisor to the Governors Crime Commission.


Banks-McLaughlin is married to an 82nd Airborne Division disabled veteran. They're the proud parents of five children. Being a wife and mother are valuable gifts she treasures dearly. The McLaughlin family are members of Lewis Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

She is a member of the NAACP, Order of Eastern Star, and Fayetteville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
