I’m Courtney. I’m a community advocate, a teacher, and a mom. And, I’m running for District 30 to be your voice in Topeka.

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2007. A few weeks later, I found out that I was pregnant with twins. It was a scary time for my family. I eventually decided to leave my job as a Journeyman Electrician because I wanted to focus on things that either gave me joy or would make a difference.

I started volunteering and fundraising for nonprofit organizations focused on healthcare access and disability rights. I’ve gone to Topeka and to Washington countless times to push for good legislation and research funding. I’ve used my voice to speak up for one of our most vulnerable populations, and now I want to use my voice to speak up for you.

I’m now a high school teacher and love my job. Every day, I have the privilege of preparing the next generation for their future.

In 2019, I was elected to the Lenexa City Council. I’ve prioritized constituent outreach, giving my phone number to every Ward 1 resident that I meet. While on Council, I supported efforts to save the Ad Astra pool, pushed for sensible gun laws at a local level, and advocated for new city codes that allowed the county’s only shelter for adults who are experiencing homelessness to stay open.

  • Provide quality, affordable healthcare - including protecting reproductive healthcare
  • Support public education - including fully funding special education.
  • Lower Kansans' taxes - reducing property taxes and immediately eliminate food sales tax.
Healthcare - I have spent the last 10 years advocating for healthcare issues, so this is a big one for me. We must expand Medicaid, and protect bodily autonomy and access to safe, legal abortions.

Economy - I support a sensible tax policy that balances income, sales, and property taxes. To help fight inflation now, I’ll push for the immediate elimination of the state sales tax on groceries. I’ll work to put more money in Kansans’ pockets by increasing the standard deduction and reducing taxes on social security and retirement income, as well as property taxes.

Gun Safety - My dad was a hunting guide and my children are Boy Scouts. I understand that gun ownership is an enormous responsibility. That’s why I support sensible gun laws that save lives.

Equality - All means All. We must fight for statewide legislation that protects LGBTQ+ Kansans and does not discriminate against anyone based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

Climate - Kansas is leading the way in wind and solar. We are not doing enough to protect our planet for our future generations. Kansas should capitalize on its assets and push for more sustainable public policy.
