Additional themes

LaLonde's campaign website listed the following themes for 2016:

Sports Marketing
In Virginia Beach, we're fortunate to have state-of-the-art sports facilities that can support a wide range of youth and professional sports. With increased sports marketing, we can utilize our facilities to their full potential to help increase enjoyment for our citizens and generate additional city revenue.

Flood Mitigation
As a coastal community, rising flood insurance premiums are a concern for many Virginia Beach homeowners and businesses. By utilizing the National Flood Insurance Program and improving flood mitigation, our city can earn insurance policy discounts and reduce costly insurance policies for our citizens.

Multi Modal Transportation
We've all felt the squeeze of traffic in Hampton Roads and as we grow the problem will get worse. In fact, over the next 25 years, congestion is expected to grow by 300%. We can improve mobility and connectivity within our city and neighboring communities through a mix of light rail, busses, bikeways, walking paths and improved roadways.

Economic Development
The military and tourism are driving forces in Virginia Beach; however, we need to build more economic pillars to better support our community. We need to take an aggressive pro-business approach to create an environment that can provide careers-not just jobs-for our citizens. [3]
