Craig Prosper
Craig Prosper was a Republican candidate for the 2011 special election to District 46 of the Louisiana House of Representatives. The seat was vacated when Fred Mills, Jr. (R) won the special election held on January 22, 2011 to fill State Senate District 22.[1]
Prosper is the owner of Craig Prosper Builders, Eldorado Corporation, Signature Investments, and City Stor-N-Lock. He has served as a St. Martinville City Councilman since 2006 and has served on government advisory boards, including the Work Force Investment Board and the Louisiana Energy and Power Authority. Prosper has also served as President and Vice President of the St. Martinville Chamber of Commerce. He is also involved in Acadian Home Builders Association, the National Concrete Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Ducks Unlimited and the St. Martin Sheriff’s Association. Prosper also coaches youth athletics and has two children.[2]

Prosper's special election campaign site emphasizes his campaign themes and policy goals:
- "We need to reduce spending and oppose any new taxes or fees... Louisiana doesn’t need to raise taxes. We just need to manage our money better. Our state is facing a $2 to $3 billion dollar budget deficit this year. There are sensible ways to deal with it without expanding government. According to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, Louisiana has 258 state jobs per 10,000 people. The national average is 143 state jobs per 10,000 people. Eliminating 5,000 positions each year for three years would be a substantial savings. It’s not a popular vote…. it a “must” vote. It’s absolutely necessary to reduce wasteful spending and increase revenues in order for our local private businesses to employ more people and benefit from an infusion of new business. Another major issue on his agenda is to get our oil industry back on tract. He plans to lobby to have a portion of our gas tax dollars stay in our parish for road repairs. Another issue on Craig’s agenda includes taking care of our citizens, particularly the youth and elderly."
Elections
2011
Prosper was defeated by fellow Republican Mike "Pete" Huval in the April 2 special election. Since only two candidates qualified for the ballot, the April 30 runoff election was not necessary.[3]
