A Crescent City Ban on Water Fluoridation, Measure A was on the November 2, 2010 ballot for voters in Crescent City in Del Norte County. Measure A was defeated.
If Measure A had been approved, it would have stopped the practice of adding fluoride to Crescent City’s water supply.[1]
Measure A was an initiated city ordinance. A group of residents who believed that fluoride adds toxins to the water collected the signatures to qualify Measure A for the ballot.[1]
About 14,000 people drank the fluoridated water that goes through Crescent City's water treatment program at the time of the defeat of Measure A. Crescent City had been fluoridating its water since about 1970.[2]
Two years after the defeat of Measure A, a different but related Measure A was approved by the city's voters. The 2012 measure had the impact of causing fluoride to be banned from the city's water supplies.[3][4]
