I'm an experienced public servant, business owner, and nonprofit founder. I'm VP of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Association, and I served two years as legislative aide to city council. I've lived in Kansas City for over 15 years, and all of those years have been spent serving my community. I'm running because I'm tired of solvable problems getting ignored just because they're hard. In City Hall, I saw how many council people don't show up to work or return phone calls. I've tried to offer solutions as an aide and outsider, but the only people with the power to truly work towards solutions for houselessness, crime, and affordable housing are council people. That's why I'm running. I can't sit by and watch while my community begs for the attention they deserve.
  • I stand apart from my opponents because my community always comes first, before political establishments or donors. I show up beyond campaign season because I truly care about this community.
  • I have the relationships and experience to get things done QUICKLY. I'm disappointed by the lack of progress we've made on the difficult issues like crime and houselessness. At least twice a year, our unhoused residents face dangerously extreme weather and our coucilpeople sit by in their warm homes. It's unacceptable.
  • Truly affordable housing isn't $1K-$1.2K for a one bedroom. We can't just keep waiting for developers to approach us with the housing we need. We have other routes for building municipally owned, rent controlled housing that stays affordable. To avoid displacement of current residents, we should explore options for rent control in areas of investment.
I'm really just passionate about supporting and empowering my community. They deserve a partner in their public servants, but the past few years they have been stonewalled from any involvement in policymaking. I believe the people closest to the problems are closest to the solutions, and that means regular people need a seat at the table. We also need to bring city hall to the people. I have been and will continue to be a fixture at neighborhood association meetings in my district. I'm involved and I will work full time on your behalf.
