I’m Cruz Mora, a lifelong resident of Live Oak, California, and I’m running for City Council to bring fresh perspectives and innovative solutions to our community’s challenges. At 25, I’ve already built a strong foundation in public service as a policy analyst in state government, where I’ve tackled complex issues in healthcare and public administration. My work has taught me the importance of transparency, accountability, and collaboration, values I intend to bring to the City Council.

I am endorsed by the NorCal Carpenters Union, the Sutter County Democratic Central Committee and the Feather River Democratic Club. As someone deeply invested in the well-being of Live Oak, I’m committed to improving our city’s infrastructure, ensuring clean water for every household, and expanding parks and recreational opportunities for families and young people.

I’m also passionate about creating an inclusive community where everyone feels represented. As the first openly LGBTQ+ candidate for City Council in Live Oak’s history, I know what it means to fight for equality, and I am dedicated to ensuring our city is a place where diversity is celebrated. My candidacy represents a new generation of leadership that is rooted in both community service and progressive values. I’m here to listen to the needs of our residents, advocate for meaningful changes, and build a stronger future for Live Oak.
  • I am committed to improving the quality of life for all residents in Live Oak by enhancing our parks, recreation facilities, and ensuring safe, clean drinking water. I will prioritize modernizing our public spaces, such as repairing and expanding the community pool and creating new parks like Garden Glen Park. I believe that accessible, well-maintained public areas foster a sense of community and well-being. Clean, affordable water is a basic human right, and I will work to ensure our infrastructure supports safe water access for all.
  • Transparency and accountability are the cornerstones of my candidacy. I will advocate for greater public participation in city decision-making processes, ensuring that every resident has a voice in shaping the future of Live Oak. This means increasing access to city council meetings, improving communication between local government and residents, and holding our elected officials to the highest standards of integrity. My goal is to foster trust in government by making it more accessible and responsive to the needs of our community.
  • As a young, openly LGBTQ+ candidate, I offer a fresh perspective on leadership that prioritizes inclusivity, diversity, and progress. I understand the challenges faced by underrepresented communities and will ensure that Live Oak becomes a place where every resident, regardless of background or identity, feels valued and supported. My candidacy is about bringing people together to create lasting, positive change. I will champion policies that ensure equal opportunities for all and reflect the diversity that makes Live Oak unique.
I am passionate about public policies that impact the well-being of Live Oak residents. My key initiatives focus on water conservation, parks and recreation, public safety, and economic development. Ensuring affordable, safe drinking water is a priority, and I will work to modernize infrastructure to secure sustainable water resources for the future.

I’m committed to improving parks and recreational spaces, such as repairing our pool and creating parks like Garden Glen Park. I also believe in supporting small businesses and advocating for policies that create jobs. Lastly, public safety is paramount, and I will work to ensure our neighborhoods are safe and well-served by first responders.
I look up to Harvey Milk, the first openly gay elected official in California. His courage, resilience, and dedication to equality inspire me deeply. Harvey Milk was not just an activist; he was a trailblazer who risked everything to fight for LGBTQ+ rights during a time when it was far more dangerous to do so. His belief in the power of representation—both in government and in society—resonates with me as I seek to become the first openly LGBTQ+ member of the Live Oak City Council.

What inspires me most about Milk is his unwavering commitment to inclusivity. He understood that representation matters, not just for LGBTQ+ individuals but for all underrepresented communities. He built coalitions, brought people together across differences, and made it clear that the fight for equality wasn’t just for one group—it was for everyone who had been marginalized.

I want to follow in his footsteps by advocating for policies that make our community more inclusive, more just, and more equitable for everyone. Just as Harvey Milk fought for visibility and equality in San Francisco, I aim to ensure that every voice in Live Oak is heard, particularly those who have been historically underrepresented in our local government. His legacy is a constant reminder to me that change happens when people stand up and make their voices heard, and that’s exactly what I intend to do as a City Council member.
An elected official must prioritize integrity, accountability, and service to the community. Integrity means standing by one's principles and making decisions that serve the greater good, even when they are difficult. Accountability involves being transparent with constituents, taking responsibility for actions, and always striving to act in the best interests of the people. Above all, an elected official must maintain a strong connection with the community by listening to residents, understanding their needs, and being approachable. It's crucial for elected officials to remain open to feedback, foster an inclusive environment, and make decisions with empathy and respect for the diverse backgrounds of their constituents. They should demonstrate leadership by being proactive in solving problems, while also promoting civic engagement and collaboration.

As an openly LGBTQ+ candidate, I also understand the importance of inclusivity and representation in local government. The council must reflect the diversity of our city, ensuring that all voices are heard, especially those that have been historically underrepresented. Integrity, transparency, inclusivity, and empathy are the pillars of what makes a great elected official.
I believe that empathy, integrity, and a deep commitment to service are qualities that would make me a successful officeholder. First and foremost, empathy allows me to truly listen to and understand the concerns of my constituents. I believe that effective leadership starts with the ability to put yourself in the shoes of others, whether they are facing challenges related to housing, public safety, or access to clean water. By listening first, I can make decisions that reflect the needs of the entire community.

Integrity is also at the core of who I am. In every role I’ve held, from my first job at Taco Bell to my current position as a policy analyst, I’ve made it a point to approach challenges with honesty and transparency. If elected, I will carry that same sense of responsibility into my work on the City Council, ensuring that all decisions are made in the best interest of the community and not for political gain.

I also bring a strong work ethic and a detail-oriented approach to problem-solving. As a policy analyst, I’ve developed the skills to analyze complex issues, craft practical solutions, and collaborate with stakeholders to make informed decisions. This experience has prepared me to tackle the challenges Live Oak faces, from modernizing infrastructure to addressing public safety concerns.

Above all, my passion for serving Live Oak will drive my success as an officeholder. I am deeply invested in the well-being of this community, and I believe that my unique combination of empathy, integrity, and hard work will allow me to make a lasting, positive impact.
The core responsibilities of a City Council member go beyond casting votes at meetings. They include advocating for residents, improving the quality of life, and ensuring the local government operates with transparency and fiscal responsibility. A key responsibility is serving as a bridge between the residents and local government, ensuring that the voices of the community are heard and their concerns addressed.

City Council members are also tasked with setting the vision for the future of the city, whether it's improving infrastructure, supporting local businesses, or maintaining public safety. Their role in reviewing and approving the city budget is critical, ensuring that resources are allocated wisely to benefit the entire community. Additionally, council members must work closely with other city officials, departments, and neighboring municipalities to foster cooperation and create regional solutions to challenges like water conservation, economic development, and environmental sustainability.

Being a City Council member also requires a deep understanding of local policies and ordinances, as well as the ability to navigate complex issues such as zoning, land use, and public safety. It is their responsibility to stay informed and educate residents on key decisions that affect the future of the city. In short, the council member must be an advocate, a problem solver, and a community leader.
I want to leave a legacy of inclusivity, progress, and meaningful change for the community of Live Oak. As a young, openly LGBTQ+ candidate, I hope to pave the way for future generations of leaders who may feel underrepresented or unheard in the political system. My ultimate goal is to ensure that every resident of Live Oak feels that their voice matters and that their concerns are taken seriously by their elected officials.

In terms of tangible accomplishments, I want to be remembered for revitalizing our public spaces, ensuring clean and safe drinking water, and promoting economic opportunities for local businesses and residents. I envision a Live Oak that is thriving—a city where families have safe parks to enjoy, where small businesses are supported, and where our infrastructure can sustain future growth without compromising quality of life.

I also want my legacy to include a commitment to transparency and accountability in government. If elected, I will work to ensure that the people of Live Oak have full access to how their tax dollars are being spent and that they have a direct line to their city council members. I hope to set a new standard for local government by fostering open communication, building trust, and ensuring that all decisions are made in the best interest of the community.

Finally, I want to leave a legacy of unity and collaboration. I believe that true progress happens when people come together, regardless of their backgrounds, and work toward common goals. I aim to be a council member who bridges divides, fosters cooperation, and brings people together to create a better future for Live Oak.
My very first job was at Taco Bell, where I worked for 1 year and 3 months. It was an experience that helped shape my work ethic and understanding of responsibility. Working in the fast-food industry taught me valuable lessons in time management, teamwork, and customer service. Whether it was during busy lunch hours or late-night shifts, I learned the importance of efficiency, communication, and maintaining a positive attitude, no matter the challenge.

This job wasn’t just about serving food; it was about interacting with people from all walks of life. I had the opportunity to connect with customers and provide them with a positive experience. It also gave me a front-row seat to understanding the needs of working families in our community. Balancing school with my job taught me how to manage competing priorities—something I continue to apply in my professional life today as a policy analyst and candidate for City Council.

While my time at Taco Bell might seem like a small part of my journey, it was incredibly formative. It instilled in me the values of hard work, accountability, and perseverance. I learned the importance of collaboration as part of a team and how every role in an organization contributes to its overall success. These are the same values I bring into my campaign, where I strive to ensure that every voice in Live Oak is heard, and every issue is addressed with dedication and care.

This experience also made me appreciate the importance of local businesses and the employees who keep them running. It is one of the reasons I advocate for policies that support small businesses and provide economic opportunities for all residents. If elected to City Council, I will work to ensure that our community thrives by supporting local enterprises and creating pathways for success for all workers.
One of the most significant struggles in my life has been navigating my identity as an openly LGBTQ+ person in a small, close-knit town. While I have always been proud of who I am, growing up and living in a community where LGBTQ+ representation was limited came with its challenges. There were moments when I felt isolated or misunderstood, and finding my place in a town where traditional values often dominated was not always easy.

This struggle, however, has also been a source of strength. It pushed me to advocate for myself and for others in the LGBTQ+ community who may have felt similarly marginalized. I learned the importance of persistence, resilience, and standing up for what I believe in. This experience has shaped my political philosophy and my desire to create an inclusive, welcoming environment in Live Oak where everyone, regardless of their identity, feels seen and valued.

In 2022, I pled with the City Council to pass a resolution honoring Pride Month, but it wasn’t placed on the agenda. This experience reinforced my belief that representation matters and that having a seat at the table is critical to creating meaningful change. My struggle has fueled my passion for inclusivity, and it’s why I’m running for City Council—to ensure that all residents, especially those from marginalized communities, have a voice in our local government.
As a pro-union candidate committed to supporting workers' rights and economic development, I’m proud to have received the endorsement of the Nor Cal Carpenters Union. Their support highlights my dedication to advocating for fair wages, job opportunities, and a strong local economy that benefits working families. I believe unions play a vital role in building thriving communities, and I am honored to have the backing of such a respected organization as I continue my campaign for Live Oak City Council.
Financial transparency and government accountability are essential to maintaining public trust. Without transparency, the community cannot hold its government accountable, and trust between the residents and their elected officials is eroded. I believe it’s the duty of every elected official to ensure that financial decisions are made in the open, with clear, accessible records available for the public to review. Budgets should be transparent, understandable, and aligned with the priorities of the community.

In my role as a City Council member, I would advocate for detailed, easy-to-access reports on city spending, ensuring that residents know where their tax dollars are going. I would also promote regular audits to ensure funds are being used efficiently and for the purposes intended. It's important to build a system of checks and balances where government operations are subject to review, and where any potential misuse of funds is quickly addressed.

Accountability goes beyond just finances—it includes holding officials responsible for their actions and ensuring that government decisions are made in the best interest of the public. As a council member, I would work to foster a culture of accountability by promoting policies that require transparency in decision-making, regular communication with the public, and mechanisms for residents to express concerns or grievances. By making government more open and responsive, we can build trust and ensure that it remains accountable to the people it serves.
