Candidate Connection

Crystal LaMotte participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 10, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Crystal LaMotte's responses follow below.[4]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Rescinding new taxes totaling 1billion dollars

2) Tougher violent offender sentencing
3) Increasing regulations on abortion clinics[5][6]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Very passionate regarding pro-life issues Protecting our Second Amendment rights Severe punishment for violent offendersCite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[6]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Crystal LaMotte answered the following:

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

New, fresh, un-politicized voices who do not owe favors to other politicians or lobbyist. Someone who represents the majority of their constituents, not the majority of their fellow politicians. Someone who says what they intend to do as an elected official and does not deviate from their original promise.[6]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I am honest, I will not tell a constituent what they want to hear in order get their vote- I tell my constituents what I intend to do and give them the choice to vote for me based off of honesty and follow through. I am a fighter and do not cave to peer pressure or political correctness.[6]
What legacy would you like to leave?
I would like to leave a legacy of honesty, and someone who really made a positive difference in the lives of many.[6]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?
Ronald Reagan being elected as our president. I was 8 years old.[6]
What is your favorite holiday? Why?
Christmas. It is the day my Savior was born.[6]
What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?
My husband and three children.[6]
What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
Mary, did you know?[6]
What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?
Legislators with no term limits. They are running the show without any accountability, such as the one billion dollar tax increases they approved in the 2017 session. We desperately need term limits, but those who can make that happen are the very people who want to stay in office for as long as they please.[6]
Is there a particular legislator, past or present, whom you want to model yourself after?
Vice President Mike Pence.[6]
Are you interested in running for a different political office (for example, the U.S. Congress or governor) in the future?
Yes[6]

2014

LaMotte's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[7]

Entitlement Reform

  • Excerpt: "We are crushing hard-working Hoosiers by taxing them at every opportunity. Welfare needs more careful oversight. This, combined with the creation of legislation, which would limit capable Hoosiers from taking advantage of our welfare system, is long overdue."

Tougher Criminal Sentencing

  • Excerpt: "Due to loopholes, we are sending child offenders back to the streets to re-offend. Crimes against our most vulnerable must be dealt with in the most serious fashion."

Protection of the Traditional Family Unit

  • Excerpt: "Marriage should be defined as a union between one man and one woman, and we must preserve this God-ordained institution. One in two marriages ends in divorce, and our children suffer the most. Counseling should be mandated prior to both marriage and divorce."

Sanctity of Life

  • Excerpt: "There is no greater crime against humanity than the merciless killing of the unborn. We, as a society, need to step in and protect the most innocent and defenseless among us and curb the tide of abortion."

Job Creation Incentives

  • Excerpt: "Let's empower, not encumber the job creators in our state, regardless of their size. Let's improve upon progress made in our state by removing unnecessary bureaucratic complexities and creating appropriate tax incentives for those creating jobs in Indiana."
