Campaign themes
2016
Kidd's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
Improve our State's Infrastructure: Culver believes strongly that our South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) needs a major overhaul. He also believes that until audits and agency streamlining occurs at SCDOT to ensure our tax dollars are being used most efficiently and effectively, increasing the South Carolina gas tax should be considered a last resort. Culver will personally go through SCDOT's budget and do everything in his power to ensure each dollar spent is for a legitimate purpose with the goal of improving our state's infrastructure. Push for Real Ethics Reform: Culver believes strongly that an independent committee made up of experienced civilians should be tasked with investigating and enforcing ethics charges and allegations against elected officials. Culver also believes that legislators should be prevented from directly or indirectly profiting from government-related activity. Not only does Culver believe conflicts of interest should cause legislators to abstain from votes, he believes certain conflicts of interest should actually disqualify folks from elected office. Reform our Criminal Justice System: Our criminal justice system should work to protect our people and reform those who can be reformed into productive members of society. As State Senator, Culver Kidd will utilize his decade of experience in the Solicitor’s Office and courtrooms to bring about criminal justice reform in the Legislature. Protect our 2nd Amendment Rights: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." These powerful words in both the United States Constitution and the South Carolina State Constitution and the right they describe must be protected. As State Senator, Culver Kidd will protect our rights to protect our families and homes. Advance Comprehensive Tax Reform: For too long, South Carolina’s tax structure has limited economic growth and wealth potential. As State Senator, Culver Kidd would advocate for a simplified tax code, combining concepts of a flat tax and a consumption tax and closing loopholes that benefit only a select few.[1] |
