Nguyen works as a senior civil engineer for the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works. He has served as district liaison to a number of associations and clubs, including the Los Angeles County Schools Trustees Association, the City of Arcadia’s Joint Use Commission, the Arcadia High School Athletic Booster Club and the Arcadia Music Club. He has also served with the PTA, the American Youth Soccer Organization and the Boy Scouts. Nguyen and his wife have three sons who attend school in the Arcadia Unified School District.[1]

Three of five seats on the Arcadia Unified School District Board of Education were up for general election on April 21, 2015. Due to the lack of opposition, the district canceled the election.

Incumbents Kay Kinsler, Cung T. Nguyen and Lori Allison Phillipi ran unopposed and won re-election to their three at-large seats by default. These same candidates also ran unopposed in 2011.

This election was canceled due to lack of opposition. Incumbents Kay Kinsler, Cung T. Nguyen and Lori Allison Phillipi were re-elected to their at-large seats by default.[2]

Funding

At the time of this election, the Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk did not publish school board candidate campaign finance reports online. Ballotpedia staffers requested this information, but the only free method of viewing the files was at their office.

The Los Angeles Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk targeted the end of 2018 to make school board candidate campaign finance reports available online for free. From that point forward, Ballotpedia began including campaign finance data for Los Angeles County school board candidates.[3][4][5]

Nguyen did not receive any official endorsements for this election.

2011

This election was canceled due to lack of opposition.[2] Incumbents Lori Allison Phillipi and Cung T. Nguyen and newcomer Kay Kinsler were elected to the board by default.[1]
