Career

In the mid-1980s, Anderson began his political career working for Paul Weyrich of the Heritage Foundation and the Arlington Group.[1]

In February 1988, Anderson served as associate director of public liaison for the Ronald Reagan White House.[2][3][4]

From 1991 to 1996, Anderson was the director of coalitions and the southern regional director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and transitioned to the Republican National Committee (RNC) as the political director and the Midwest regional director in 1996 until 1999. It was during this time that Anderson became aquatinted with Chairman Haley Barbour of the RNC.[5][6][7]

In 1999, Anderson served as a strategist for Steve Forbes' 2000 presidential campaign.[8][7]

In 2000, Anderson headed up coalition outreach for George W. Bush's (R) 2000 presidential campaign.[7] He also headed up the RNC's pro-Bush campaign.[6]

Anderson joined Mitt Romney's 2008 ad team, as a media consultant.[9] That same year, he oversaw the RNC's anti-Barack Obama campaign.[6]

Beginning in 2004, Anderson served as a political consultant for Bobby Jindal's U.S. House and gubernatorial campaigns. In 2010, he and Jindal co-wrote the book Leadership and Crisis.[6]

In 2006, Anderson founded OnMessage, a political consulting firm, whose client list includes candidates in both local and national races.[10][11]

In 2012, Anderson came on board Rick Perry's (R) presidential campaign as a senior advisor.[8][2][3]

Anderson is also co-founder with his brother, Wes Anderson, of OmniSports (also called OnMessage Sports), a sports consulting firm.[12][13]

On June 24, 2015, Bobby Jindal announced his presidential campaign and solidified his campaign team, naming Anderson his chief strategist.[14] Prior to Jindal's announcement, Politico noted that Anderson was "a longtime Republican political operative who is close to Jindal, [and] is also involved in the governor’s political orbit as a consultant."[15]

Jindal and Anderson were first introduced in 2002 through a mutual acquaintance, Haley Barbour, the former RNC chairman whom Anderson had worked with while at the RNC.[16] Anderson had also previously worked with Jindal aide Timmy Teepell, who became a partner at OnMessage in 2011.[17]

Jindal suspended his presidential campaign on November 17, 2015.[18]
