A notice of intent to recall Councilman Curt Chaffin was filed on July 15, 2009 in Fernley, Nevada. The recall campaign was initiated by Fernley residents Alyce Hughes, Larry Miller and Anne Regan. A recall election took place on November 6, 2009. Early voting ran from November 2nd through November 5th.[1] At the time, Chaffin was serving as mayor pro-tempor and was re-elected in 2008. In the November election, Chaffin was challenged by local resident Susan Seidl, however, the recall was defeated.

Reasons for recall
According to the filed notice, residents are calling for a recall because Chaffin "failed to provide adequate supervision and make proper inquiries into the performance of the former treasurer; failed to provide adequate supervision over the former city manager; fails to respond to constituent concerns and complaints; supported mandatory trash; supported the Pozzolin Mine within 400 feet of residential property; supported transferring water to Pyramid Lake to the detriment of Fernley farmers and ranchers."[4]
