|Curtis is deeply rooted in his service to his community. He was elected to Brookville Town Council in 2016 and currently serves as President. He previously served as a member of the County Area Planning Commission and as a member of the County Tourism Board.
In 2006, Curtis was the recipient of the Lilly Scholarship and attended the Univ. of Indianapolis. Here he received his Bachelor's degree in Political Science. He intends to use his experience and education to improve the quality of place and life in rural Indiana by emphasizing and promoting regional cooperation to solve common issues across all areas of District 55.
Curtis has a passion for investing in youth through services and eduction. For over 11 years, he served as both a volunteer and full time staff member of College Mentors for Kids, a national non-profit that provides mentoring to at risk youth. Curtis will use his passion for children to support legislation that improves the educational opportunities for our youth while supporting our educators.- Curtis believes in local decision-making and less state/federal government involvement. If elected, he pledges to invest his energy into legislation that promotes creating more private jobs, protects family farms, increases access to broadband, invests in our youth and education, and protects and supports pro-life and pro second amendment issues. I am running for State Representative on the simple promise to Move Rural Indiana Forward to make our area the best place to live and work. As a lifelong resident of our district, I have plans to author bills that best serve our needs and increase the quality of life.
- Hoosiers are rightfully concerned with excessive government control and overreach, especially post Covid. We suffered a loss of individual freedoms during that time. Churches were forced to close, we were forced to stay in our homes, and were given titles as essential and non-essential. I will support legislation that supports individual freedom and liberties. I never want another church or small business owner who has invested their hard earned money to live the American Dream to have to shutter their doors due to another governmental overreach.
- I firmly believe that ever person has a duty, an obligation to leave their community a better place than they inherited it. I also believe the local units of government are best suited to solve local issues and the state government should give those units of government tools and resources to be successful. I’m the only candidate who has served in an elected office and worked at the “bottom level” This is extremely important when passing legislation that will directly impact your local leaders.
I am also concerned about maintaining a strong sense of conservative values in our area and supporting Pro-life and Pro-second amendment initiatives. We need to be resolved in our core beliefs systems and fight against those who would seek to change that.
These are the exact principals I lead by. I work hard and am determined to make our area the best place to live and work. I will fight for Hoosiers with honesty and integrity and will devote my time into making our community grow together.
After graduating college, my first job was at College Mentors for Kids, Inc. I worked downtown Indianapolis and commuted every date from Brookville, IN for nearly seven years. I did this because I believed in the work we were doing at College Mentors and because I valued life in a small, rural community. I can relate to my friends and neighbors who choose to live in a rural setting while commuting nearly an hour or more to work each day.
