Cynthia J. Newton
Cynthia J. Newton is a judge of the Florida 6th Circuit Court. She assumed office in 2005. Her current term ends on January 2, 2029.
Newton won re-election for judge of the Florida 6th Circuit Court outright in the primary on August 23, 2022, after the general election was canceled.
Biography
Education
Newton received her undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of South Carolina and then her law degree from Gonzaga University in 1994.[1][2]
Career
Newton began her legal career at a private law firm in St. Petersburg. After a short time, she left that firm and became an Assistant Public Defender of the 6th Judicial Circuit. She served in that position until she was elected to the circuit court in 2004.[1]

Florida's 20 circuit courts all had seats up for election in 2016. Of the 151 seats up for election, 125 saw only one candidate file for the election. The unopposed races were canceled and the sole candidates were automatically elected. Of the 26 opposed races, only 10 saw more than two candidates file. [3]
