Biography
Cynthia Ramirez received her undergraduate degree (Political Science, Italian minor) from Loyola University of Chicago in 1986 and her J.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School in 1989.[1] Ramirez began her career in 1990 at the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, where she later became a senior attorney. In 1995, she left to start her own firm, Ramirez, Haggerty & Parry. Soon after, she returned to the Public Defender's Office. In 1998, she became an Administrative Law Judge with the state Department of Human Services and, in 2000, was with the Department of Public Health.[2]

Ramirez was elected without opposition on Nov. 6, 2012. She defeated Gerald V. Cleary in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012, receiving 60.04 percent of the vote.[3][4]
