Cynthia Sanders McCarty (Republican Party) was a member of the Alabama State Board of Education, representing District 6. She assumed office in 2015. She left office on January 16, 2023.
McCarty (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the Alabama State Board of Education to represent District 6. She won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Biography
A native of Auburn, Alabama, McCarty attended Auburn City Schools and Auburn University. After graduating from Auburn University, McCarty took a position with AmSouth Bank in Birmingham, Alabama. After receiving a master's from Samford University and a doctorate from the University of North Carolina, McCarty accepted a professorship in economics at Jacksonville State University in 1990, where she continues to teach.[1][2]

Political career
Alabama State Board of Education (2015-2023)
McCarty was first elected to the Alabama State Board of Education in November 2014 and was sworn in the following January.[1] McCarty did not seek re-election in 2022. She was replaced by Marie Manning (R).
