Four seats on the Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District Board of Trustees were up for general election on November 3, 2015.

The seats of Position 1 incumbent Thomas Jackson, Position 2 incumbent Christine Hartley, Position 3 incumbent Darcy Mingoia and Position 4 incumbent Kevin Hoffman were up for election.[1] Hoffman was the only incumbent to not file for re-election. Two candidates, Debbie Blackshear and Pam Redd, vied for his seat. Mingoia faced challenger Natalie Blasingame. Both Jackson and Hartley were unopposed.[2]

Jackson and Hartley were re-elected to their respective positions. Mingoia was successful in securing the Position 3 seat and Blackshear won the Position 4 seat.

Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District is located in north Harris County, Texas. The county seat of Harris County is Houston. Harris County was home to an estimated 4,336,853 residents in 2013, according to the United States Census Bureau.[3] Cypress-Fairbanks Independent School District was the third-largest school district in Texas, serving 107,960 students during the 2011-2012 school year.[4]

Demographics

Harris County outperformed the rest of Texas in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 28.4 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 26.7 percent for the state as a whole. The median household income in the county was $53,137, compared to $51,900 statewide. The poverty rate in the county was 18.5 percent, compared to 17.6 percent for the entire state.[3]

Voter and candidate information

The Cypress-Fairbanks Board of Trustees consists of seven members who are elected at large to four-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election for four seats was held November 3, 2015.[6]

A member of the board must be 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and a resident of the district. An individual seeking office must be a resident of the state for 12 months and a resident of the district for six months, prior to the last date on which the candidate could file to be listed on the ballot. The deadline to file for a place on the general election ballot was August 24, 2015.[6] Voters had to register to vote by October 5, 2015, to cast ballots in this election.
