2014
On his campaign website, Shah highlighted the following issues:[5]
Jobs
- Excerpt: "A strong community is built upon a vibrant economy with diverse high-paying jobs that supports its local small businesses. Our community should allow established businesses to thrive and create opportunities for entrepreneurs."
Public safety
- Excerpt: "I supported Measure U to restore city services that were lost during the recession, to put more cops on the street, and to end the fire station brownouts. Now that these funds are being utilized, I will fight to ensure that East Sacramento, South Natomas, and River Park get their fair share."
Flood protection
- Excerpt: "As a Trustee of the American River Flood Control District, I have been actively working to strengthen our levees. As a Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency Director, I worked with other local leaders to support the efforts of Congress Members Matsui and Bera to get millions of dollars for levee repair and maintenance. Once appropriated, these funds will pay for levee improvements that will finally end the building moratorium in Natomas, reduce the cost of flood insurance for homes and businesses, and create local jobs. I look forward to working with federal, state, and local leaders to ensure that these federal dollars are spent to maximize the safety of District 3 neighborhoods."
McKinley Village
- Excerpt: "Now that McKinley Village has been approved and is moving forward, we must continue to monitor its development as a community, ensure that the promises made regarding the project are fulfilled, and that the concerns of the community are addressed throughout its construction and beyond."
Strong-Mayor proposal
- Excerpt: "While I personally oppose the Strong Mayor Proposal, as I believe the current governance structure creates a fair balance between neighborhood and city issues, the issue will soon be decided by the voters and I respect their judgment."
Education
- Excerpt: "I believe the Council can be a better, more energetic partner with our schools. On the Council, I will look for ways to create and expand before and after school programs, strengthen the relationships between public libraries and schools, and expand the City’s summer programs for kids. I also want to work with parents, teachers, and community leaders to find a way to bring a comprehensive public high school to East Sacramento."
