D. Michael Swiney is a judge of the Tennessee Court of Appeals Eastern Section. He assumed office in 1999. His current term ends on September 1, 2030.

Swiney ran for re-election for judge of the Tennessee Court of Appeals Eastern Section. He won in the retention election on August 4, 2022.

D. Michael Swiney was appointed to the court by Republican Governor Don Sundquist in July 1999.[1][2]

Biography

Swiney received his undergraduate degree in 1971, his master's degree in 1974, and his J.D. degree in 1978 from the University of Tennessee College of Law.[2] Swiney began his legal career in 1979 as a lawyer in Knoxville, Tennessee. He worked in this capacity until 1999, when he was appointed to the Tennessee Court of Appeals. Swiney has also worked as an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee College of Law (1997-2006), and is a member of the American Inns of Court (Hamilton Burnett Chapter) and the Tennessee Courts of the Judiciary.[2]
