Dagmar Wood was elected and officially took office as commissioner of Platte County's first district on January 1, 2017 for a four-year term. She was then re-elected to a subsequent four-year term that began January 1, 2021. Dagmar earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri, Columbia and her Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Previously, she was an analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. While taking time off work to raise her four active children, Dagmar volunteered in their schools. She was also appointed to serve on and lead local committees concerning public safety and health. Dagmar and her husband, Eric, have been residents of Platte County since 1988 and enjoy living in Parkville with their four children.
  • Supporting public safety should be a priority of county government, as well as maintaining safe roads and bridges.
  • Responsibly setting aside funds for the future maintenance of Platte County's parks, trails, and community centers is also a financial priority. Dagmar has worked to increase transparency by making all administrative session documents accessible online and posting sessions on live and archived on YouTube. and values working with officeholders and department heads to ensure the responsible stewardship of taxpayers' resources.
  • During Dagmar’s term, the Platte County Commission filed a lawsuit to protect taxpayers from paying a developer’s revenue shortfall to pay off parking garage bonds. The payments due at the time and demanded by the trustee totaled up to $40 million and would have required a tax increase and/or cuts in law enforcement. In December of 2020, after three years of fighting on behalf of taxpayers in the courts, the Platte County Commission prevailed.
Prioritizing public safety and infrastructure is a priority of county government. Our Platte County voters and taxpayers have had the opportunity to restructure taxes in 2020 with a dedicated Law Enforcement sales tax of 1/4 cent with no net change in the tax structure.
