In 2022, Daisy Campos Rodriguez was declared the winner of the election and officially sworn into office. However, Rangel contested the results, and the 49th Judicial District Court determined that some votes had been illegally cast in favor of Rodriguez. The case was appealed to the Fourth District Court of Appeals, which ruled that Rangel was the rightful winner. The official election night results showed Rodriguez with 1,957 votes and Rangel with 1,951. After the court invalidated 14 illegal votes, Rodriguez’s total was reduced to 1,943. In January 2024, the state Supreme Court declined to review Rodriguez's petition, and Rangel was sworn into office.[1]
