Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

I’m Daisy “KD” Karimi—a small business owner, community organizer, and lifelong Kansan raised right here in Topeka. I earned my degree in Business Administration from Washburn University and now run KD Visions LLC, where I help bring community-focused projects to life across the state. Over the years, I’ve worked with local organizations, supported small businesses, and helped lead civic events that bring people together. I also serve on nonprofit boards that support youth, the arts, and equity. I care deeply about public service, and I believe in doing the work that helps our neighborhoods grow stronger.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• People-Powered Leadership: I’m running to bring leadership that listens, shows up, and follows through. Topeka deserves a representatives who is accessible, transparent, and committed to putting people—not politics—first.
• Neighborhood Investment: From fixing our roads to supporting small businesses and keeping our communities safe, I’m focused on real solutions that improve daily life in District 3 and Topeka. Every block, every family, every voice matters. I’m committed to building on the foundation that’s been laid and moving our district forward—together.
• A New Generation of Public Service: I bring fresh energy, proven experience, and deep roots in the community. I’ve organized civic events, supported local programs, and helped young people find their voice. I’m committed to honoring the wisdom of our elders, advocating for working-class families, and showing up for the next generation. As one of nine voices on the council, I will work collaboratively to make sure no one is left behind.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I’m passionate about policies that make life better for everyone—from safer streets and sidewalks to affordable housing and addressing homelessness. I care deeply about investing in youth, supporting elders, and standing up for working families. I believe our city budget should reflect the real needs of our communities, with transparency and accountability. What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

An elected official should lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability. They must be a good listener, stay connected to the community, and make decisions based on people—not politics. It's important to show up, follow through, and collaborate with others—even when it’s hard. To me, the best leaders don’t just hold office—they serve with humility, consistency, and a clear focus on building trust and delivering results

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I lead with integrity, empathy, and a strong work ethic. I listen, follow through, and stay focused on real results. My background in organizing, small business, and project management helps me solve problems, bring people together, and get things done.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

The core responsibilities of a city council member include listening to residents, passing policies that reflect community needs, and ensuring city resources are used responsibly. That means focusing on issues like infrastructure, housing, safety, and economic development. It also means showing up, being accessible, and working with fellow council members to move the whole city forward. The job isn’t just about making decisions—it’s about building trust and delivering results people can feel.
