An effort in Rio Bravo, Texas, to recall Mayor Daisy Lee Valdez was initiated in July 2019.[1] Petitioners submitted enough signatures to put the recall on the ballot. The recall election took place on November 5, 2019.[2] Valdez was removed from office as a result of the recall vote.[3]

Recall supporters
Recall organizers accused Valdez of taking $5,000 from the city to purchase gift cards.[1]
Recall opponents
Valdez responded to the accusations, saying the gift cards were purchased in order to pay for road repairs. She said the city used Walmart gift cards because the city didn't have a debit card.[1]
