I was born in a small town in Mexico, and thanks to my grandmother, a US citizen, I came to Brownsville at age 10. We started with very little, but through my parents' hard work, we were given the opportunity to live the American dream. They taught me the value of a good education, a strong work ethic, and the importance of giving back to the community.

Growing up in Brownsville, I developed an interest in health and its impact on our community. Witnessing the toll of chronic diseases and losing my grandmother to diabetes inspired me to dedicate my career to public health. So I pursued a PhD in nutrition and public health and became a scientist and professor at one of the country's top medical schools.

When my husband, Mark, and I returned to Brownsville to raise our two sons, Emilio and Santiago, we knew we wanted to invest in this city's future. That's why I've worked alongside neighbors and leaders on initiatives that matter, like organizing the community to support the West Rail Trail. This effort was close to my heart because it reflected what the community wanted: spaces that promote health, connection, and pride.

Parks and safe spaces for children to play are essential for a thriving community. These spaces aren't just for fun—they're investments in health, safety, and the future of our city. But parks are just the beginning. A strong city builds on these foundations to ensure everyone has access to opportunity.
  • Good Streets: Who doesn't hate potholes? We've all had that one jarring bump that nearly ruined a tire. Potholes can go months without repair. Speeding cars fly through our neighborhoods. Daisy will fight for better street maintenance, real traffic calming solutions, and safer roads for drivers and pedestrians.
  • Clean Parks: We don't need another Dollar Tree. We need more clean, green spaces. From broken playgrounds to trash, our parks are neglected. Daisy has already helped lead walking trail efforts, and she'll push for more investment in park & trail maintenance, shade, lighting, and safety.
  • Smart Growth: Brownsville doesn’t need more empty buildings. We need better planning. Daisy believes in putting people first. She'll focus on long-term planning improving drainage, supporting local businesses, guiding development that truly benefits residents, and creating the kind of city that keeps young professionals rooted in Brownsville.
Accountability that works. Stray dogs, overgrown lots, nothing gets done.
Code enforcement is failing us. Daisy hears you - and she knows how to make data work for people. With her public health background and policy experience, she'll bring accountability, urgency, and transparency to city response systems.
Integrity and an iron-clad commitment to the public good. I've lived in District 4 for the last 10 years; we all need a commissioner who's committed to the district and will actually live here. I also have no conflicts - everything I'm doing for the city is purely for the public interest.
