Brueggemann ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Texas' 15th District. He and Eddie Zamora defeated Rebecca Cervera and Jim Kuiken in the Republican primary on May 29, 2012. He went on to defeat Zamora in the July 31 runoff election. He faced Ruben Hinojosa Sr. (D) and Ronald Finch (L) in the November 6 general election.[2][3][4][5] Brueggermann was defeated by Democratic incumbent Rubén Hinojosa on November 6, 2012.[6]
