Dale Erquiaga is the former Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction. Erquiaga was appointed to the position by Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval on August 13, 2013.[1] He remained in office until August 20, 2015, when he left in order to assume the newly-created role of chief strategy officer in the governor's office.[2]

From 2006-2009 Erquiaga was a Principal at Get Consensus, LLC, a firm that provided consulting services for the Nevada Association of School Superintendents.[3] He then went on to become the executive director of government affairs, public policy and strategic planning at the state's largest school district of Clark County. Most recently Erquiaga advised Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval from 2010 to 2012.[1]

Political career

Superintendent of Public Instruction (2013-2015)

Erquiaga assumed the role of Nevada Superintendent of Public Instruction on August 26, 2013.[1] He resigned on August 20, 2015, to become Gov. Sandoval's chief strategy officer. Upon Erquiaga's resignation, Gov. Sandoval praised his work as superintendent, saying:

Dale was the architect behind the sweeping effort to modernize and reform Nevada’s public education system... Dale will continue to lead the efforts of my office to ensure that these historic initiatives are carried out successfully. Moving Nevada’s top education officer into this expanded role will guarantee that strengthening Nevada’s education system remains a top priority in my administration.[2][5]

Deputy Superintendent Steve Canavero assumed the duties of superintendent after Erquiaga's resignation.[2]
