I have 40+ years of legislative experience at Cleveland City Council, the Ohio House, Ohio Senate, and County Council. I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and attended Case Western Reserve University and the University of Utah. I have no other employment other than County Council. I am the Chair of the Finance & Budgeting Committee and also am a member of the NOACA Board of Directors and Committees on Human Resources, Health & Human Services, Public Works, and Operations.
  • My approach to government is to work with others, be pragmatic, and focus on solving problems, rather than engaging in politics.
  • We need to be welcoming and inclusive toward all people. The current scapegoating of immigrants and transgender people is destructive and has to stop.
  • Think globally and act locally. I work locally for peace and effective climate response.
Effective response to climate change, reducing incarceration, reducing opiate addiction and overdose fatalities, violence prevention, early childhood education, strengthening democracy.
Barack & Michelle Obama. They are pragmatic, visionary, and inclusive leaders.
Honesty, integrity, fact and science based, inclusive, collaborative, principled but willing to compromise on strategies and methods, compassionate, willing to listen to others, open to new ideas.
pragmatic, optimistic, hard worker, good with numbers, able to work with all kinds of people.
A better environment, a safer community, more equality of opportunity.

We should spend public money with the same care or more than handling our own. Oversight and accountability are essential. We need to do more to scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of programs and base funding decisions on that information. Cuyahoga County should continue to make good use of its four sources of oversight--Council oversight, Inspector General, Internal Audit, and External Audit. In an organization of this size, problems will occur; but with good oversight they can be found and corrected quickly.
