Campaign themes
2016
Lytle's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
State Budget: Dalton supports zero-based budgeting and constitutional spending limits. Each department and program should justify their budgetary needs every biennium. Taxation: Dalton opposes a state income tax and will support a substantial reduction or elimination of the Margins Tax, enabling small businesses and entrepreneurs to more effectively create jobs. Sanctity of Life: Dalton believes that life begins at conception and ends at natural death. We have a responsibility to protect the unborn and the aged. Education: The success of Texas and America depends on an educated citizenry. Public schools are essential and are supplemented by private schools (including home schools). As a father of homeschooled children, Dalton fully supports the rights of parents to educate their children at home. Parents have ultimate responsibility for overseeing the education of their children whether public or private, and active parental engagement and support is foundational to student success. We should search diligently for effective alternative solutions to the educational challenges we face. Expanded school choice will help in some areas, but alternative education methods coupled with enabling technology may have greater effect. We should encourage both vocational and post-secondary education. Immigration: Dalton welcomes and supports legal immigration and understands that many come here with hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow. Dalton fully supports those that follow the legal process. However, not all immigrants seek to build up our nation but to alter or destroy it. To ensure safety and orderly migration, the federal government is constitutionally mandated both to provide for the common defense, including securing and defending our borders and to regulate the flow of foreign nationals into our country as visitors or future citizens. When the federal government fails to fulfill its constitutional duties, Texans must secure their own border. We must remove incentives encouraging illegal immigration including sanctuary cities and post-secondary financial aid.[1] |
