Damian Lara (Democratic Party) is the Bernalillo County Assessor in New Mexico. He assumed office on January 1, 2023. His current term ends on January 1, 2027.
Lara (Democratic Party) ran for election for Bernalillo County Assessor in New Mexico. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Biography
Lara received his bachelor's degrees in political science and philosophy from Brown University in 2001. He received his J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2007. His professional experience includes working as an attorney with a specialization in immigration and family law. In 2003, Lara was appointed Deputy Assessor of Bernalillo County. In 2013 he began serving as a board member for the Bernalillo County Juvenile Justice Continuum. He has been a board member of the New Mexico Hispanic Bar Association, serving as treasurer from 2011 to 2015 and as the organization's president from 2015 to 2017. Beginning in 2009, Lara has served as treasurer for the steering committee for the Brown Club of New Mexico. In 2012, he started as a mentor for the New Mexico Second Judicial District Children's Court Special Programs. The 2018 election was his first time running for office.[1]
