I am a proud Texan who wishes to restore fairness, balance, and competency to this court. As a 17 year practicing attorney, I know my way around criminal and family law cases. I also know how to read and apply the law, as written. I want to employ trauma-informed practices within the court to help those who have been harmed and those who harm. I understand that coming into Protective Order court is a person's worst scenario and I want to help them cope with the situation and find ways out of said situation. Offering counseling, Veteran's groups, and anti-abuse classes are a good start. Making sure there are interpreters in the court each day also guarantees people who speak a language other than English the proper access to the courts.
  • Ensure that applicants do not have to pay for interpreters in order to tell their story. THe courts should provide interpreters.
  • Protect applicants by creating a system where signed orders get to law enforcement in a timely manner.
  • Create an inclusive courtroom where men are neither afriad nor ashamed to ask for help from their abuser.
I am personally passionate about the bill to extend medicaid to mothers for the first year of their child's life in order to provide better health care for women.
