Dan DiMicco is the Chairman Emeritus and former CEO of Nucor Corporation, a manufacturer of steel and related products. He was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team, a group of advisors tasked with recommending presidential appointments for the incoming administration.[1] He has called himself Trump's "senior trade adviser."[2]
Career
DiMicco graduated from Brown University in 1972 with a bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering. He graduated in 1975 from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in metallurgical engineering.[3]
Dan joined Nucor Corporation as a plant metallurgist in 1982, eventually becoming a vice president and then CEO. He served in various capacities on Nucor's board of directors and became Chairman Emeritus of the board in 2014.[4]
During DiMicco's tenure as Nucor CEO, the company sponsored town hall meetings on topics of American manufacturing. The Charlotte Observer calls him a "critic of free trade policies."[5]
DiMicco has authored two books, American Made: Why Making Things Will Return Us to Greatness, and Steeling America's Future.[6]
Donald Trump presidential transition team, 2016-2017
DiMicco was a member of Donald Trump's presidential transition team in his first presidential term. The transition team was a group of around 100 aides, policy experts, government affairs officials, and former government officials who were tasked with vetting, interviewing, and recommending individuals for top cabinet and staff roles in Trump's administration. He was the team's U.S. Trade Representative advisor.
