What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
Less We Can when it comes to taxes and regulations. New Hampshire has an occupational licensing addiction. Energy costs are a barrier to entry for new businesses and jobs in NH.
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?
It is much too difficult to convince committees to review and repeal old statutes. New laws are built upon old laws - so committees tend to treat them like lower levels in a Jenga tower. I have the patience and energy to see reviews through. New Hampshire has Education Tax Credits - a hard fought procedure for businesses to fund children scholarships. This is now a battleground area in the legislature that I intend to engage in.
Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?
"The Law" by Frederick Bastiat and "The Ethics of Liberty" by Murray N. Rothbard.
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
Patience and a desire to understand all sides of an arguments. I work well in a committee environment and can bring people together to explore ideas each side has to offer before reaching conclusions.
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
Civility, integrity, and respect. To know that all government is force and all actions it takes will have consequences that is impossible to anticipate in the committee room.
What was your very first job? How long did you have it?
My very first job was in the back room of the Christmas Tree Shops for the holiday rush. My second job was manual labor at a chemical manufacturing facility. I was very lucky to have both jobs.
Every state besides Nebraska has two legislative chambers. What do you consider the most important differences between the legislative chambers in your state?
Every bill must have a an outcome in each house. Every bill must have a public hearing in each house. This is an amazing feat for 400 representatives to pull off every two years.
What do you perceive to be your state’s greatest challenges over the next decade?
Energy costs. Healthcare costs. Externalities from other, costlier, states.
