Dan Jorgensen was an at-large member of the Aurora Public Schools Board of Education in Colorado. He was first elected to the board in 2011 after board elections were canceled due to a lack of candidates.[1] He did not run for re-election in 2019.

Jorgensen served as the board vice president and as a voting delegate to the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB). He also previously served as the board's treasurer.[2]

Jorgensen earned a B.A. from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He later received an M.A. in experimental psychology from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Jorgensen also obtained a Ph.D. in educational policy and administration from the University of Denver.[2]

As of 2014, Jorgensen served within the Accountability and Data Analysis Unit at the Colorado Department of Education. He had also served as the evaluation and research coordinator with the Colorado Department of Education, the assistant director of the Division of Accountability and Research with Aurora Public Schools, and as a project leader with Denver Public Schools. He also served as a governing board member to the Regional Education Laboratory (Central States). Jorgensen served on the state's Concurrent Enrollment Advisory Board from 2009 to 2013 and was an officer for the Association of Colorado Education Evaluators.[2]

Three of the seven seats on the Aurora Public Schools Board of Education were up for election on November 3, 2015. All three seats up for election were at-large seats.

Incumbents Dan Jorgensen and Cathy Wildman filed for re-election while Mary W. Lewis was unable to run due to term limits. The incumbents faced challengers Grant Barrett, Linda Cerva, Monica Colbert, Billie Day, and Michael Donald.[3] Jorgensen and Wildman were successful in winning re-election and Colbert won election to the remaining seat.

Funding

Jorgensen reported $4,190.00 in contributions and $4,754.70 in expenditures to the Colorado Secretary of State, which left his campaign with $564.70 in debt as of October 29, 2015.[4]

Jorgensen was endorsed by current APS board members Dr. JulieMarie Shepherd, Cathy Wildman, Mary Lewis, Amber Drevon, Dr. Eric Nelson and Barbara Yamrick. He was also endorsed by former board members Matt Cook, Jeanette Carmany, Jane Barber and Amy Prince. The elected officials who supported him were Sen. Nancy Todd (D), Sen. Jorgensen, Cathy Wildman and Mary W. Lewis won election without opposition in 2011. The election scheduled for November 1, 2011, was canceled in September 2011 due to a lack of candidates.
