My name is Dan Katz and I recently retired from State service after completing a 12-year tenure as the Director of the Maryland State Police - Forensic Sciences Division. I offer seasoned leadership and a deep understanding of Maryland State Government operations. My experience running a State agency has taught me the importance of collaboration with all stakeholders to achieve practical real-world solutions. Crucially, I also have firsthand experience with the system's bureaucracy and the lack of accountability and transparency that often hinders government efficiency. As a long-time agency head, I possess the necessary knowledge and connections to drive meaningful change in Annapolis. My career in forensic science provides a unique, impartial perspective on our criminal justice system. I grasp the "big picture" and recognize the need to leverage technology, innovation, and cooperation to maximize both public safety and community trust within Maryland. For the past 18 years, my family and I have been blessed to be part of this community. As your District 42A Delegate, you can trust that I will fight for you and your family just as I would expect you to do for me and mine.
  • RESPONSIBLE USE OF TAXPAYER'S MONEY:

G.O.A.T. - Government Operating with Accountability & Transparency

    - Establish and Fund a State Inspector General Office - Resource, Realign, Restructure, or Replace Underperforming State Agencies

    - Prioritize funding based on Return on Investment analysis
  • PUBLIC SAFETY: Intelligent & Collaborative Criminal Justice -Embrace the Forensic Intelligence Model to speed up investigations and prevent future crime - Establish a collection of inter-related Statewide Criminal Justice Advisory Boards led by subject matter experts in the areas of Forensic Science, Law Enforcement, Legal Representation, and Judicial Oversight - Promote Criminal Justice Stakeholder Collaboration to standardize practices and eliminate unnecessary duplication of efforts
  • ADVOCATING FOR THE PEOPLE OF DISTRICT 42A: Supporting our Farmers, Ensuring a Competitive Maryland, and Appreciating our Natural Resources - Agriculture Advocacy - Preparing the Next Generation for Success - Supporting Local Outdoor Recreation
Areas of public policy that I am most passionate about are Criminal Justice, Science & Technology, and Oversight. My experience as the State Crime Lab Director provides me with a specialized set of skills in these areas that will provide leadership and guidance in the House of Delegates. I know how best to use limited resources for ensuring a fair criminal justice system. My understanding of science and technology allows me to grasp innovative solutions that other legislators may not. Also, I have experienced the limitations and obstacles that prevent an efficient State Government and am motivated to eliminate them. I believe my expertise would be best served in both the House Judiciary and Government, Labor, & Elections Committees.
