Dan Parker is a political consultant operating in the state of Indiana. Parker is the former executive director and chair of the Democratic Party of Indiana.
Career
Dan Parker grew up in Massachusetts, but the majority of his consulting career has been spent in the state of Indiana. As a consultant, Parker has worked with former Indiana Governor Evan Bayh (D), former Indiana State Representative John Gregg and former Indianapolis mayor Bart Peterson.[1]
Parker's involvement with the Democratic Party of Indiana dates to 1992. He served as the executive director of the party from 2003 to 2004 and as the party chair from 2004 to 2013.[2] During his time with the party, Indiana elected three Democrats to the U.S. House, and the Democratic Party gained a majority in the Indiana House of Representatives. The state also supported President Barack Obama in the 2008 presidential election.[1]
In 2011, Parker announced that he would step down as chair, saying "I have worked each day to make our state party more inclusive and diverse; more open; more efficient and more successful at the ballot box. We have achieved many of the goals we set out to achieve."[3] However, party leaders asked Parker to fulfill the remainder in "a move that blocked an intraparty squabble between factions that have been at odds for years," according to the Evansville Courier & Press.[4]
In 2013, Campaigns and Elections named Parker one of the top 10 influencers in the state of Indiana. The magazine noted, "A former aide to the Bayh clan, Parker's also had stints with ex-state House Speaker John Gregg and ex-Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson. He spent the last decade building the party."[5]
