Daniel Scavino Jr. is a Republican social media consultant. On November 13, 2024, Donald Trump (R) announced Scavino would work as assistant to the president and deputy chief of staff in Trump's second presidential term.[1]
He was a director of social media for Donald Trump's first presidential term.[2] The founder and director of Scavino and Associates, a social media management company, Scavino was also the director of social media for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign.[3]
Private sector career
Early career
While still a student at Plattsburgh State University, Scavino caddied at the Briar Hall Country Club in Westchester, New York, a position that put him in contact with Donald Trump as well as the president of Coca-Cola. In 1998, when Scavino graduated, he took a job as a regional manager with Coca-Cola, a position he held for five years. Then, in 2003, Trump bought Briar Hall and made it into Trump National Golf Club; Scavino became the assistant clubhouse manager.[5]
Trump Organization
From 2003 to 2013, Scavino worked in the Trump Organization's golf division in a number of capacities. He moved to the position of general manager at Trump National in 2006 and then to executive vice president, a position reporting directly to Trump, in 2007.[6] In 2009, Scavino was named one of the 20 "most admired" club operators by Golf Inc. Magazine.[7]
In a 2009 interview with Hudson Valley Magazine, Scavino detailed his business relationship with Trump, noting that he spent time traveling around the country developing golf courses for the Trump Organization. Of Trump's personality, Scavino told the magazine, "If something pisses him off, he’s going to let you know it. ... If you do something great, he’ll let you know. Positive reinforcement. If you do something the wrong way, he certainly has his own ways of letting you know that, too. It’s part of the territory, but he’s been great to me all these years."[8]
Joe Torre Foundation
Scavino left the Trump golf division in 2013 to become the director of development at the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation.[9] The foundation focuses on domestic violence and aims at "educating to end the cycle of domestic violence and save lives."[10]
Donald Trump presidential campaign, 2016
In February 2016, Scavino was appointed as the director of social media for Trump's campaign.[11] Scavino had been working with Trump's campaign as a senior advisor since June 2015.[3] According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, Scavino had been "working directly with the Republican presidential hopeful while managing his social media efforts."[12]
Much of Scavino's work for the campaign involved using Twitter for posting images and videos covering Trump's campaign rallies and for attacking other candidates, including rapid response posts during the debates. He was also in charge of sourcing many of Trump's images and videos to be tweeted out and commented upon by the candidate.

On December 22, 2016, Scavino was appointed to be the director of social media for Trump's White House staff. Scavino was hired to manage the official @POTUS account, and he maintains a personal account as well.[2] In a June 2017 article, Politico detailed some of Scavino's responsibilities, reporting, "Scavino ... is omnipresent in the West Wing, constantly recording content for online videos. He has said that he often taps out tweets for the president’s account as Trump dictates them, and he has a knack for mimicking his boss on Twitter."[13]
