Dan Whitcomb was a 2016 Republican candidate for District 15 of the Minnesota State Senate.

Campaign themes

2016

Whitcomb's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Government Spending and TAX relief:

  • In the last two years Minnesota has recorded significant tax revenue surpluses in excess of 1 billion dollars each year. That money is above and beyond what was needed for the biannual budget. Instead of returning the surplus to taxpayers, the Governor and legislature find new ways to spend the funds. I believe Minnesota taxpayers are over taxed and the surplus funds be returned to Minnesota, by cutting taxes for the working class, small businesses and farmers.
  • I support a repeal of the General levy property tax against small business and recreational properties.
  • I support making social security retirement payments to be income tax free.
  • I support making military retirement payments to be income tax free.
  • I support making the area around Mille lacs Lake and adjacent Counties a special business enterprise zone which encourage tourism and improves the recovery of sustainable walleye populations.

Education:

  • I support teacher licensing reform to allow greater/more flexible reciprocity between states licenses so teacher in states outside Minnesota can obtain provisional licenses in Minnesota.
  • I support a higher level of vocational education opportunities at the K-12 level.
  • I support a greater level of curriculum control at the local community level and reduced mandatory skills testing.
  • I do not support pre-school early childhood education by the state.

State Energy policy reform:

  • Minnesota is a cold weather state so it is important that citizens have access to reliable, proven and affordable energy sources for home heating, transportation, job creation and economic production.
  • I support proven electrical power produced by clean coal technology, nuclear and natural gas.
  • I am opposed to any state policy that relies solely on subsidized alternate energy source such as wind or solar power.
  • Minnesota has long been the northern oil transportation hub of the United States by rail, truck and pipelines.
  • I support safe and reliable oil pipe lines and pipeline upgrades through Minnesota.
  • I am opposed to the “Federal Clean Air Act” that does not recognize clean coal technology or would require the early decommissioning of reliable energy production such as the Sherburne power plants.

Social issues:

  • I support the managed sport hunting of wolves in Minnesota.
  • I support the individual right to bear arms for the protection of life, home and property.
  • Pro-life, believes life starts at conception.[1]
