An effort to recall Ward 6 City Councilman Dana Sande did not qualify for the ballot in Grand Forks, North Dakota after signatures were not turned in by the June 12, 2023, deadline.[1][2]

Recall supporters

Resident Kevin Wilson initiated the recall effort. Wilson said that he started the recall to “give a voice back to the people in the ward.” He alleged that Sande did not take residents' concerns into account in his handling of a deal to bring a corn mill, which would have been owned by the Chinese company Fufeng Group, to Grand Forks. The mayor and city council prevented the mill project from moving forward after the U.S. Air Force stated that the mill posed a threat to national security due to its proximity to Grand Forks Air Force base.[1][3]

Recall opponents

Sande offered the following comment on the recall campaign to the Grand Forks Herald: "Frankly speaking, I have other work to do for the city that’s more important than worrying about what other people are doing. ... I’m just going to continue doing what I can to make Grand Forks as great a place as it can be.”[1]
