|Since 2019, I have been a member of the Richmond Planning Board and in early 2023 I was voted in as Vice Chair of the Planning Board by my colleagues. Additionally, I volunteered on the short-lived Chariho Building Committee in 2024 and have been a member of the newly-formed Richmond Technical Review Committee since 2024.
I am a proud Eagle Scout and have since joined the local Cub Scout pack with my children.
I am also a steering committee member of the recently formed Richmond Community Alliance (RCA), which is a non-partisan group of residents with varied backgrounds working together for a better Richmond through positive community engagement and action. The RCA publishes a newsletter that provides residents with important town information and key decisions made by the Town Council and other boards and commissions.- I am running for Town Council because I would like to help serve the community in a positive manner and keep Richmond a great place to live for everyone. My first goal in office is to create a collaborative environment through transparency, integrity, and trust. Next, I will work to repair the relationship between the Council and town staff for a cohesive town government. This creates efficiency and reduces waste. As a 5-year member of the Planning Board and Vice Chair, I have first-hand knowledge of how vital this is and how it will benefit citizens. As a supervisor of employees with various skills and backgrounds, I strive to improve morale, value the expertise, and recognize the hard work of those under me to improve the organization.
- Richmond needs a proactive approach to governance and assisting residents. With this, concerns such as the relatively high property taxes and lack of public services such as water/sewer/trash pick-up can be addressed. Councilors should be more proactive in championing issues, running them to ground, and presenting their work to the town as a perpetual meeting agenda item. It’s time that council members take initiative beyond attending meetings and simply voting on agenda items. There is plenty of work to do behind the scenes that can be disseminated to the public on a continual basis. By doing this, Councilors will be held accountable to themselves and the public and residents will know their elected officials are working for them.
- It is important that council members listen to ideas from residents and openly discuss the benefits and drawbacks of policy decisions. Electing council members that have the best interest of Richmond as their objective is crucial. Change must come first and foremost from the voter. Also, it takes electing officials that believe in compromise. It is important that the Council have disagreements and reach a compromise while valuing the varied perspectives of each other and residents. This will streamline decision making in the best interest of Richmond. I believe that effective leadership requires leading by example, and I will behave with integrity to set the tone on the Council; however, I will call out poor behavior when necessary.
I believe it is important to act ethically and be transparent with the public regarding policy decisions. I am guided by the tenet that effective leadership requires leading by example and understanding that everyone has something to offer, along with a self-awareness to know what you don’t know and seek the advice of subject matter experts. It is also imperative to create an environment in which residents have direct input to policy and growth.
