Daniel Esty is the former Connecticut Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection. Esty was appointed to his position by Governor Dan Malloy in February 2011.[1] He resigned in January 2014 to return to his previous position as a professor at Yale University, and was succeeded by the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection's chief of staff, Robert Klee, effective February 3, 2014.[2]

A January 2013 article in Governing named Esty as one of the top state Democratic officials to watch in 2013.[3]

Before becoming commissioner, Esty was a professor of environmental law and policy at Yale University.[4] He has also served as director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Policy and the Center for Business and the Environment. Prior to entering academia, Esty worked in a number of senior positions at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and practiced law in Washington, D.C.[4]

Esty was appointed as Connecticut Commissioner of Energy and Environmental Protection by Governor Dan Malloy in February 2011 and was later confirmed by the Connecticut General Assembly.[5] He served in this position until his resignation, effective February 3, 2014.
