Campaign themes

2017

Fierro highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:

Student Achievement in World-Class Facilities

Here in the ABC Unified School District, we’re lucky to enjoy some of the best schools in the state, and in the country. As your representative on the Board of Education, I will fight to keep student achievement front and center as the district’s primary mission. To do that, we need to offer our students 21st-century classrooms, equipment, and technology so they can have every advantage possible. Our students are world-class -- their classrooms should be, too.

Small Class Sizes and Individual Attention

Our students deserve the best. Studies have shown that small classroom sizes help our students maximize their learning and give teachers the ability to focus on individual student needs.* That’s why I will fight to ensure all students continue to enjoy small class sizes that allow our teachers to give each student the individual attention he or she deserves. Even in the face of budget constraints, I will fight to ensure that our commitment to student achievement never wavers.

The Best Teachers for the Best Students

Our ABC schools already have some of the best teachers in California, but we need to ensure that we give our teachers the tools they need to continue to be the best, even in the face of budget cuts and reduced support from the federal government. As your Trustee Area 3 Board Member, I will make sure that we continue to recruit the best teachers into our classrooms and give them the professional development opportunities they need to give our students the education they deserve.
