Holt's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • With several upcoming projects of significant impact - such as the Honolulu rail transit project and the redevelopment of Mayor Wright homes - Daniel is focused on ensuring that the District 29 community has a voice in government that will remain steadfast in minimizing the inconveniences to its residents.
  • Progress and development are inevitable, but it needs to be done sensibly.
  • Homelessness within the community is an issue that needs to be addressed and handled in a responsible manner. It’s more than simply forcing the homeless out of an area, with nowhere else to go or no other alternatives to living quarters. By doing such, it amplifies the complication by having our homeless move elsewhere, as demonstrated by the effects of the homeless sweeps in Kaka’ako.
  • It requires seeking out resourceful solutions that will help our homeless instead of marginalizing them in order to mitigate this seemingly never-ending situation. We need to keep our neighborhoods safe for our past, present and future generations.
  • Having safe streets for the community’s children to get to and from school is very important but so is having a safe learning environment within their classroom. As a former Chair of the Kalihi-Palama Neighborhood Board, Daniel is well-aware of the issues students face both inside and outside of the classroom.[10]

In information submitted Ballotpedia, Holt stated:

"Through my campaign and hopefully through my position as a representative, I will focus on getting my constituents engaged again, on providing them with the information, tools, and inspiration that they need to help sustain our local values and our community spirit."[3]

"Working in the legislature has really opened my eyes to the intricacies of state government, and has given me a new perspective on how peoples’ lives can be substantially affected by decisions made by the individuals who represent them. Being born and raised in this community allows me to keep the best interest of the people in mind while making these crucial decisions."[3]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Hawaii

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
