New England Patriots football player charged with murder

Aaron Hernandez, former tight end for the New England Patriots, was arrested and charged with the murder of Odin Lloyd on June 26, 2013. Hernandez appeared before Judge O'Shea for an arraignment and the judge ordered that he be held without bail. The same day that Hernandez was taken into custody, he was let go by the Patriots.

Lloyd, a semi-pro football player who is said to have been a friend of Hernandez, was found dead on June 17, shot multiple times. According to the prosecution, Hernandez was caught on surveillance cameras with Lloyd and two other friends a few hours before the murder took place. Hernandez and one of his friends had handguns, the prosecutor said.[5][6]

Hernandez faced six charges. In addition to the murder charge, he faced charges related to illegal possession of a firearm. He pleaded not guilty to all six counts.[7][8]

On July 25, Judge O'Shea ordered Ernest Wallace, charged with accessory after the fact to murder, to be held on $500,000 cash bail.[9]

Judge Susan Garsh will preside over the trial.[10]
