The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014. Incumbent Daniel "Dan" J. Leonard was unopposed in the Republican primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[5][6]

Leonard won re-election in the 2012 election for Indiana House of Representatives District 50. Leonard ran unopposed in the May 8 Republican primary and defeated Mike Wallin (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[7][8]
2010
Leonard won re-election to the 50th District seat with no opposition. He received 15,413 votes.[9] The general election took place on November 2, 2010.
In the May 4th primary, Leonard ran unopposed and received 6,814 votes.[10]

Leonard has served as a leader with the Cub and Boy Scouts and as president of the Huntington Chamber of Commerce. He previously served as president of the Huntington Chamber of Competence, a board member of the Salvation Army, and president of the South Side Business Association of Huntington County.[13]
