I am Daniel Mahoney, the current Mayor of the city of Jackson. I was born and raised in Jackson and graduated from Jackson High School, class of 2000. I attended Eastern Michigan University for Business after transferring from Jackson Community College and returned to Jackson in 2009 to make a difference. I am married to my loving wife Semaj Mahoney, and we have five beautiful girls.

I proudly served as Jackson County Commissioner, representing the 7th District for seven years. I continue to serve on several boards, committees, and commissions as part of my commitment to public service.

I am running for this office because I have seen the needs at the county level as County Commissioner, and as the Mayor of Jackson, I have seen the needs at the city level. I would be the best candidate to go to Lansing to advocate for the resources we need inside District 46. I recognize the diverse groups inside District 46, which would make me the strongest representative for this district.
  • I am a candidate who can deliver results. Before holding political office, I led community volunteer efforts to donate 10,000 backpacks to local students. As Jackson County Commissioner, I led efforts to start a youth employment program; and as Mayor, I have worked to alleviate poverty and expand internet access for my constituents. As a State Representative, I will continue to produce results for everyone in District 46. I believe my previous experiences in public office make me well suited for this role and to be a productive state representative who brings back results to our district.
  • We must work to protect our democracy. Michigan has seen threats to various rights that should never be in question. For example, the right to vote, the right for women to choose, or the right to clean drinking water. I am a candidate who believes the role of our State Representative should be to protect those rights, not threaten them.
  • I am a candidate who will represent everyone in District 46. I recognize the diverse communities within this district, from the urban center of downtown Jackson to the more rural and suburban areas in Grass Lake. Having worked on both the county and city levels, I recognize the needs of both urban and rural constituents. I am campaigning on the message that all of these voices matter. As a State Representative, I will ensure that every voice is heard.
I am passionate about issues around economic prosperity. I believe our State Representatives should work to uplift the district they represent. As Mayor, I led a project to alleviate homelessness in the 100 Houses program. I've worked to increase public safety through my relationships with the Jackson Police Department. And I have led efforts to get our youth employed.

To me, economic prosperity means that we must cut down barriers that prevent mom-and-pop shops from thriving. We must protect freedoms guaranteed to individuals in our Michigan constitution. And we must uplift marginalized voices. In doing this, we have a path to success, attracting talent and jobs to our state and creating a Michigan for everyone.
Most important for being an elected official is the ability to represent the whole community. Those in office should have experience in the communities that they work with because that is how one understands what the communty's needs are.

Those holding office should be able to deliever results; not filibuster while playing partisan politics, prevent funding from reaching communties that need it, nor should they placate those who do not have the interests of their constituents in mind.
If you have ever met me, you would know that I am a very accessible person. What has brought me success in my previous experiences in office is my ability to develop and maintain relationships with those that I meet. I am easy to reach, if you need something I will find a way to get it done. As well, I have lived in Jackson nearly my entire life, having held office on the county and city level, I have a deep understanding of the needs of my district. With these qualities, I will be able to bring results back to the residents of District 46.
